We visit and ride through the amazing landscape of Þingvellir National park and follow soft riding trails and enjoy great scenery and view of the highlands in the southwest.

Itinerary

We start the second part of our Dream Tour from the Farm Fossnes where part 1 over Sprengisandur ended. We ride over some country roads to the river Stóra Laxá and cross the river in a beautiful valley near Sóleyjarbakki and then continue on a country road near Hrunalaug hot spring and over Kirkjuskarð to Fludir. Overnight at a guesthouse in Laugarvatn village.

On this day we will cross three big rivers by riding over bridges. We start with riding over a newly bridge over a big river Hvítá, then over Tungufljót and at last over Brúará river. We can imagine how difficult it has been crossing these rivers before the bridges were built. After crossing the rivers we will ride beautiful riding paths north of Mosfell mountain to Laugarvatn. Overnight at Laugarvatn guesthouse. Visit to the natural baths Fontana in the evening  (fontana.is)

We will ride an old but very good riding path north of Lyngdalsheiði to an abandoned farm Gjábakki (east bank of Þingvellir valley) where we can see over to Þingvellir.

We leave the herd and ride into Þingvellir National park with local guides passing another few abandoned farms until we reach an old Landsmot area Skógarhólar where we stay overnight.

We enjoy riding around and exploring the National park  Þingvellir accompanied by a local ranger from the Park.

We head north to the wilderness and ride an old road where the people from western part of the country have travelled to and from Þingvellir since Althingi parliament was established in the year 1.000. At crossroads we turn to the west and ride down to Skorradalur Valley, a beautiful valley with a big lake and Icelandic “forest”. We leave the horses at Fitjar farm at the bottom of the valley. Overnight at Hvanneyri guesthouse nearby.

We ride along the south bank of the lake Skorradalsvatn following riding trails surrounded by beautiful birch forest and lava formations.  The ride ends at Heggstaðir farm close to our guesthouse at Hvanneyri.
